Lesson Name What would be the final cost of my DUI? 
Lesson Objective Participants will get an approximate cost of what they have to pay to address the consequences of their arrest.
<p>Describe financial, political, social, and legal influences on the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
 
Lesson Materials
*Print Itemizing sheet

*Prepare board for brainstorming activity

*Have writing tools available such as paper,pencils or pens

*If you will show the video, make sure you have Internet connection, a LCD projector or a TV, and have them ready both before session begins.

 
Procedures
Introduce topic by describing activity name, content standard, and objectives.

Start the session by asking the participants the following questions:

Inform participants that they are going to conduct an activity that will first identify every single item that they need to take care in order to address all the DUI related costs.

-Also, they will discuss and identify the costs of each item in order to come to an approximate cost, of what they need to pay in order to take care of all the requirements in their case.

BRAINSTORM

-Ask participants to begin identifying the costs of their arrest starting with first day and write each item on left column

-After they identify most items, make sure to include the following:

Attorneys, court costs, car towing, DUI Program, car insurance, fines, work loss, DMV fines, car impounded,

-Also, emphasize that there are two different charge/counts that they need to address: One, driving under the influence Two, driving with blood alcohol content (BAC) of .08 or more which triggers DMV charges and costs
