Introduce topic by describing activity name, content standard, and objectives. Begin the discussion by asking the participants the following questions: -What specific actions do we take to make sure our cars run well? -Why do we make sure our car runs well? What happens if we don't? Inform participants that we will discuss how we affect the well-being of our bodies and its overall life expectancy with our daily actions and decisions. Introduce the video, "When do you want to die?" After the video is over, ask the following questions: -Do you remember what is the life expectancy for men and women today? -Why do you think that women live longer than men? -Do you know someone who is very healthy? What do they do that you capture as healthy? -As an individual, what do you do specifically to stay healthy? -According to the video, what are the two specific indicators of a good and prolonged life? Do you believe it? Why or why not? Draw two columns on board and label them Exercise and Diet. On the Exercise column, write what NOT to do. Ask participants to identify actions that we should NOT do in order to establish good health habits. Now repeat the activity but ask the participants to help you identify the actions the everyone should do in order to establish good health habits. Repeat the activities for the Diet column. when you get to the alcohol consumption discussion, make sure that you expand on why the intake is damaging to our body organs. As a final activity, ask participants to help you identify at least 3 specific actions you can take on each health area: exercise and diet. Now ask for volunteers to express their commitment in public to doing at least one specific action for each health area. |
