Video: Alcoholism: 30 Great Reasons to Quit Drinking Alcohol

Write the objectives and guiding questions on the board.

Procedures
Introduce topic by describing, activity name, content standard, and objectives. Start the session by asking the participants the following questions:

-Are you afraid of guns?

-Who owns guns here?

-What safety measures do you need in order to make sure a gun does not go off by accident?

-Is it important to know safety procedures in order to own a gun?

The most important aspect of the questions is to discuss the importance of taking very specific measures to prevent a fatal accident with a gun.

Now inform the participants that they will watch a video that will set up the stage to discuss why we take extreme measures to show the respect for guns but not for other deadly objects, such as a simple six-pack of beer.

Show the video, "A six-pack, potential killer."

After the video ends, ask the following questions:

-What are your initial reactions to the video?

-What do you think about comparing the consequences of the use of a gun with the consumption of alcohol? Why, why not?

-Have you heard or read about any real story with the tragic outcome as described by the speaker of the video?

What would be the consequences for the person who was drinking? Ask the participants to help you identify the immediate, intermediate, and long term consequences. We suggest that you draw 3 columns so you can write the consequences on their respective columns. The important aspect of this activity is to list all the consequences on the board for a more dramatic visual effect.

What would be the consequences for the family of the person who was drinking? Again, try to write as much as possible so they can see how many people are affected by drunk driving accidents.

Ask the participants to remember how many people were casualties of the accident. Again, ask the participants to help you identify all the consequences that will affect the surviving family members of the victims involved in the DUI accident.

As a final activity, ask the participants to help you review the gun safety measures described by the speaker of the video.

Ask the participants to identify at least three safety measures they can take next time they decide to drink alcohol.

Make sure that you ask for at least two volunteers to share the safety measures they identified.
