Introduce topic by describing, activity name, content standard, and objectives.

Start the discussion by asking the following questions:

What is your favorite holiday?

-About how many holidays are there each year?

-Why do we connect holidays to celebrating and drinking?

-Is there a holiday when you do not drink in purpose? Which holiday? Why?

Inform the participants that will watch a video that illustrates and identifies all the "opportunities" many individuals have as reasons to consume alcohol.

Discuss how we as a society, how many opportunities to drink. We connect different types of holidays, including religious ones, as occasions for drinking.

After the video is over ask the following questions:

-What do you think? Is it true what the speaker is describing? Why or why not?

Did he miss any holidays? Which ones?

-Why do we, as a society, connect different types of holidays as opportunities to drink alcohol?

-Ask if the participants know which yearly sport event is identified as the most violent in reference to spouse physical abuse?

Distribute the article, "The most dangerous holidays."

Ask the participants to identify the holidays and place them in order of the most fatalities. Give them between 5-10 minutes so they can analyze the information.

Ask the participants to identify the most deadly holiday. Ask them to make additional comments about that specific holiday identifying other characteristics. Repeat activity with at least 2 more holidays.

As a final activity, ask the participants to identify their favorite holiday and one specific strategy they will implement next time so they will not be part of those tragic statistics they just read about.
