Procedures
Introduce topic by describing, activity name, content standard, and objectives.

Ask the participants the following questions:

-What are the main reasons why many people begin to drink at social events?

-What are the initial emotions or feelings after the first two alcoholic drinks?

-Do they feel the same all night as they continue to drink?  How?

-What are the main symptoms when one knows that they have had enough to drink?

-Discuss why there are different stages of emotions while drinking.

Explain that we will watch a video that explains the effects that people experience while drinking alcohol and how it affects the brain specifically.

Inform participants that there will be information in the video that will be discussed after the video ends.

QUESTIONNAIRE ACTIVITIES

After the video ends, distribute the questionnaire so participants have a way to record answers as the conversation takes place.

Ask the following questions and have participants provide answers when possible:

How much alcohol can we metabolize per hour?

What does alcohol do to our brain when we drink?

Why is it more harmful for minors to drink alcohol?

For the following questions, it will be important to have a conversation about some of the specific effects on each part of our brain.  It is not expected for participants to know the answers, but they need to be able to hear and write answers at least one more time to emphasize the importance of knowing some of the effects of alcohol on the brain. The resources included with the activity have the specific information to answer these questions.

Please set up a conversation by asking:

A) What happens to the cerebral cortex when we drink alcohol? Repeat with rest of questions

B) The frontal lobes?

C) The cerebellum?

D) The hippocampus?

E) The hypothalamus?

F) The medulla?

As a final activity, ask a volunteer to explain why we act the way we act after drinking alcohol. The point is to review that our brain is affected by the consumption of alcohol.
