Introduce topic by describing, activity name, content standard, and objectives. Start the session by asking the participants the following questions: -Have you made an important decision that made you really happy and you knew from the start that it was a great decision? Can you share the details? If there are no volunteers be prepared to share one of your own experiences in case they do not want to share their own. After listening to the comments posed by the previous question, ask the following: -Have you made an important decision that made you really sad and unhappy and you knew from the start that it was a bad decision? Can you share the details? Be prepared to share again in case the participants do not want to share. Inform the participants that we will read an article that gives an answer to the previous question. Make two teams and give a copy of the article to each participant. Assign each team a section of the article as follows: Team 1: The first 4 paragraphs. Team 2: The last 5 paragraphs. Instruct the participants to read and discuss the assigned paragraphs. Inform the participants in each group that they need to share their discussion with the whole class after they finish. Also, ask them to identify one group member to be the reporter for the class at large. After the discussion ends and the most important points are discussed, ask the participants to help you identify at least 3 key areas as to why we make bad decisions sometimes. Finally, ask them to assist you in identifying strategies to alleviate the obstacles to making better decisions in the future. |
