Introduce topic by describing, activity name, content standard, and objectives. Begin the session by asking the following questions: -Is it important to set goals in life? Why, why not? -As adults, what are some of the most important goals we set? Can you share one of them? -What is the difference between a goal and a wish? Inform participants that they will watch a video that describes the reasons why many people live life without setting specific goals in their lives. The video "5 common myths about setting goals" explains some of the differences After watching the video, ask the following questions: -What is a goal? -What is the difference between a goal and a wish? -What are the myths people have about setting goals? -What myth do you think is the most common? -Do you think that learning to set goals can assist us in avoiding problems in the future? Inform the participants that now we will read an article that will assist us in learning how to set goals. Add that the articles offers specific tips. Distribute a copy of the article and before they begging reading it, read outloud the following phrase: -"Badly set goals can degrade performance, motivate unethical behavior and damage organisations." Have students thinks about that phrase as they read the article After you observe that most participants have read the article, ask the following questions: -According to the article, why you should not be too specific in your goals? -Why is it better to set small and limited number of goals? How could a very short goal affect self-growth? What are the disadvantages of setting too-difficult-to-accomplish goals? As a culminating activity, ask participants if they would like to share a goal that they know they can reach and how would it be beneficial to them as individuals. |
